Eeek. I guess the blog took an unintentional summer hiatus. I went to show a friend some pictures today and realized I hadn't uploaded anything in over a month. I'm surprised I haven't started getting letters of complaint from my grandmother! :)

But just because I haven't posted doesn't mean we haven't been busy.
Alice and I took a trip trip to Florida with Granne to see my grandparents. Pictures of that trip are in the JULY album.

Other than that trip, we've been sticking close to home, enjoying our last weeks in Baltimore. Pictures are in the AUGUST gallery. Alice has recently learned about the idea of playing "dressups" and has been coming up with some interesting outfits! This is what she put on for our family movie night (to watch the princess and the frog).

Last night we went to the parade grounds at Marine Corps Barracks Washington DC (known as "8th and I"), where we had awesome seats at the Friday night concert and parade. Alice loved the music and managed to stay awake for the whole thing (until after 10).

Alice's hair is really starting to grow in, so, last week I tried to do her hair in pigtails. It was a challenge to get her to stay still long enough, so they were pretty messy, but I thought they were pretty cute anyway. And, they make her look like such a big kid.

Shoe girl in the future?

At the doc's office this morning, Alice weighed in at 28.5 inches and 18 lb, 12 oz. (around the 25% for both height & weight).

I was surprised she is still so small - she's only gained a pound in three months - but Doc says this is because she is probably so busy crawling around that she's burning off all her calories.

Still, it's a far cry from this -- taken one year ago today. Hard to believe.

What a Week!

It was a pretty huge week for us.

Earlier this week, we flew to Chicago, where Wes successfully defended his dissertation. So, that will be "Dr. Daddy" from here on out, I guess.

Then, we came home in time to celebrate Alice's first birthday, with all the appropriate festivities of course.

Mother's Day at the Zoo

We took a trip to the Maryland Zoo this morning. Alice really enjoyed looking at the animals, and also scoping out all the other kids. The petting zoo was a particular hit.

We had a very busy day today -- first we had an easter egg hunt & alice got her very first easter basket (we're equal opportunity holiday celebrators around here). then we took an outing down to DC to see the national cherry blossom festival. it was a beautiful spring day and a perfect chance to enjoy the amazing scenery!

Updates

I'm running a little behind on posting, but here are a few bullet-point updates from the exciting life of Alice Mae.

- She had her 9 month check up two weeks ago. She was 27 1/2 " long and 17 lb, 11 oz (around 30-40% in both). She's so active and sturdy these days that I was surprised she is still so tiny!

- She LOVES eating "grown-up" food, and especially anything she can eat with her hands. This includes things that aren't really finger food...

- Another favorite activity is climbing the stairs. She can now climb our entire staircase with no assistance.

We were hit by a major snow storm this weekend -- we got about 20", one of the top 10 snow falls in the history of Baltimore. Pictures of the snow, and some other recent events are HERE.

At Alice's checkup this week, she weighed in at 16 lb, 1 oz and was 25.5 inches long. That puts her right around the 30-40% in both height and weight.

In other news, she now has a second tooth coming in next to the first one.

Hard to believe, but Alice's 6 month "birthday" has come and gone! She doesn't actually go to the pediatrician for her 6 mo check up for another week, but once she does, I'll be sure to post her stats.

Velociraptor baby

Alice looks cute in her latest photos, but what she isn't telling anyone is that she has turned into a squawk box. She sounds a lot like the velociraptors from the movie "Jurassic Park." I tried to post a video, but she is too smart to be caught on tape screaming...I'll catch her one of these days :)

Visit to Plimouth Plantation

Well, it was only a matter of time before Alice started getting dragged to historical landmarks.

While we were in MA this weekend, we stopped in at Plimouth Plantation (for those of you who aren't familiar with it, this is the location where the "Pilgrims" settled and hosted the first Thanksgiving. Here's their website).

Today was a big day: Alice's first "solid" food (which was still pretty much liquid.) She did a great job. I think she might have even managed to swallow a little bit :)

alice turned 5 months old last week... no new stats for you, since we don't see the doctor until next month, but i assure you, she is growing like a weed!

Alice and I took a day trip down to Washington DC with our friends Sarah & Nicholas today. We checked out the mall and a tiny bit of the Smithsonian. Lots of interesting things for a baby to see! A few more pictures are here. The album also has some photos & video of Alice's playtime with Wes.

4 mo update

Alice had her 4 mo checkup today -- she weighed in at 13 lb 6 oz and 23 1/2 inches long. Doc says she looks great!

We also have some new pictures of a recent visit to Haddonfield & just hanging out at home.

Alice is getting all sorts of new skills - she can reach out and grab a toy, push up with her legs, sit up (as long as she has a little help!), and she even rolled over once! I think she'll be running around before we know it!

Alice is one well traveled baby!

We are visiting the West Coast, and trying to see as many relatives as we possibly can while we are on the move.

Our first stop was Albuquerque, where we had a great visit with Great Grandma Glenda (GG) and Great Grandpa Wes (Gpa), as well as Aunt Rhonda, Uncle Richard, Aunt Pam, Uncle Daryl, Aaron, Zach and Zane!
